There are various ways to come to Pula. In this wiki you should find info about that.
Route 1. By train to Zagreb, then bus to Pula
Trains to Zagreb
There are many trains from european cities. You can check their departure and arrival times here:
http://www.hznet.hr/medunarodni.htm
Important note: The name of the Zagreb train station is
Zagreb Glavni Kolodvor
Bus from Zagreb to Pula
Buses
from Zagreb to PULA go every hour or two.
Just check departure times on the Zagreb bus station's web site:
http://www.akz.hr/Eng/Time-table/time-table.html but be warned about the
AUTOTRANS company
Prices are in croatian
kunas. Exchange rate: 10 euro = 74 kuna
Route 2. By train to Pula (via Zagreb)
Probably the cheapest way to come to Pula is
by train only. But it's quite long too... You can reach
Zagreb with fast train connections but the train for
Rijeka is not that fast. From
Rijeka you can continue the trip with the train ticket because the railway company arranged a bus that will pick you up in
Rijeka and take you through a
car tunnel to a train station
Lupoglav. There you can continue the trip with the train to
Pula (1h:30min). Last railway's bus from Rijeka leaves at 19:20.
Note: If you want to spare some time, you can come by train to
Rijeka and than
take a bus to Pula (from the Rijeka central bus station). There are many buses
Rijeka -
Pula every day (every 2-3 hours).

Route 3. Train to Pula (via Ljubljana)
If you think Ljubljana (Slovenia) is closer to you than Zagreb it seems better to plan the trip to Pula via Ljubljana. But beware! Ljubljana and Pula DON'T have good connections because now this cities are in different states (Slovenia and Croatia).
Route 4. Bus from Trieste (Italy) to Pula
Departures from Trieste:
Source of this information is:
http://www.pulainfo.hr/en/autobus.asp
Price of the ticket (one way) is around 10 EUR!
Route 5. Boat from Venice (Italy) to Pula
From Italy there is a high-speed catamaran connection
from Venice. Check the time table:
http://www.venezialines.com/eng/tratte-en.asp?trtt=pola
Arriving by car
from the west: Trieste - Koper - Buje - Pula
WARNING !!! the way from Trieste to the slovenian border is tricky ...
Don't expect to find clear directions to Koper. The other name of the city is Capodistria ( = Koper ) and the name of the corresponding border is Rabuiese, on the italian side.
You can also follow the direction of Muggia ( which is still in Italy ) and the name of the road is SS 15.
After that the direction to Pula is clearly shown right from the slovenian border.
from the north: Villach - Ljubljana - Koper - Buje - Pula
from the east: Zagreb - Rijeka - Tunnel Učka - Pazin - Pula
- Questions & Answers
- Isazi asked on the mailing list: I don't know if this question is or not stupid
but i'll make it, if we go to split/spalato with ferry-boat from italy, which is the best way to go to pola ? (without car obviuosly)
- IfkePhasianus? answers: The fastest way is by plane (http://www.croatiaairlines.com). It goes to Zagreb and then to Pula... I just checked the web page, in order to come to THk you should take the plane from Split on June 24th, otherwise you'd come late in the evening June 25th. I recommend this because the ticket is 7-8 EUR more expensive than bus! But maybe that's only if you buy the plane ticket until 4th od June! So better be quick! Alternative to plane is by bus (http://www.pulainfo.hr/en/autobus.asp); beware: it'll take 10hours!
- Patrice added: And if you don't make it by plane: Take the JADROLINIJA ferry from Ancona and book through to Rijeka (NB this will be twice a night journey, but it is very enjoyable and relaxing, and quite cheap with the combined discount. Return ticket extra 20% discount). From Rijeka there are frequent buses to Pula. (busstation walking distance from the ferry landing). There is even a combined bus/train service, starting from the Railway station (still walking distance, but a bit further!). This is a little cheaper than bus all the way, though marginally longer journey. Cab from Rail or bus station in Pula to Karlo Rojc: 30 Kuna (4 Euro) otherwise half an hour walk!
