Green Phone Inquiries

In order to demonstrate the work of activists on the Green Phone, their patience, perseverance, and commitment which are required, we thought it would be the best to show you the cases (Inquiries) which we have been solving. As you will see, the methods and approaches to solving the problems differ from case to case, likewise some of them are solved successfully, and some are still ongoing. Other than the mere presentation of our work, it is our desire is to give you some new ideas for solving environmental problems in your environment. Each case contains the category to which it relates, and the name of the association which resolved the case.

Last month, via the Green Phone, Ecological Society "Krka" from Knin received a report by a group of citizens regarding the spread of highly unpleasant smell along the street.

Rivulet Marčinkovac due to the high temperature, dried out and the unpleasant smell spread as a result of accumulated faecal waste at the riverbed. Namely, city sewage of one part of the city is discharged into Marčinkovac, and because of the lack of maintenance of the riverbed, there was a build-up of waste.

Via the Facebook page of Green Istria the citizens sent a video in which it was recorded how the driver of the truck threw the concrete out in the sea in the area of the former military base at Valelunga in Pula!

Two months after the rat cull was carried out in Osijek, the rat problem, especially in a village Sjenjak, is still present. During the last week we received several complaints via the Green Phone of Zeleni Osijek. Their number is no longer a problem, but the methods of getting rid of them. The alarming fact is that citizens are trying to solve the problem on their own initiative and put poison in public places of their own volition, without thinking about the consequences that may be far more dangerous than the problem itself.

At the end of the summer the Association Žmergo received a report from the tenants via the Green Phone, stating that there was a very loud firework in their neighbourhood, which shook their windows and there were echoes in the house.

Most of them were surprised that no one had been informed about it. Association Žmergo reported it to the Sanitary inspection, which responded that it does not consider it to be a noise, and referred us to the municipal services of the City of Opatija.

We recently received three reports via the Green Phone of Green Istria that have a common denominator - it is about crafts for the processing of metals and plastics, which are located in residential areas.

We received a report by Mr. Miljenko Rakić from the village Buković number 80 via the Green Phone of Eco Zadar on the inhuman conditions of keeping pigs on neighbouring farm of the late Vladimir Rakić.

Current residents of the said farm keep the animals in poor and inhumane conditions (open sewage, poor conditions, the unbearable stench spreads around ...). Neighbours cannot open their windows or stay outside the house because of unbearable stench (elderly and sick residents live nearby), which is very difficult during the summer heat.

At the corner of Meštrović Square and Vankina ulica in Zagreb, there used to be an open dump on public green area which was set on fire and part of the can also burnt down.

After that incident the waste was removed, but soon afterwards even greater waste was created. Citizens called the GP of the Green Action in panic, because they feared that there will be another fire.

We notified the municipal services, as well as HTV (Croatian television) team who recorded a report about it. After a few days all waste was removed.

Green Phone of the Association Franjo Koščec - Varaždin received a report of environmental pollution by asbestos plates.

We received reports from several citizens via the Green Phone of Association "Krka" Knin about almost everyday incineration on the same location in Knin, along the river Marčinkovac, during the last 6 months.

Most of the smoke was present at dawn (around 06:00 a.m.). We notified the city of Knin, municipal services monitoring officers, firefighters and the police.

In September, the Association Sunce received a report via the Green phone of inappropriate behaviour of jet-ski drivers in the protected canyon of the river Cetina in Omiš.

Specifically, this is about uncontrolled driving through the canyon of the river, which is usually noticeable during the summer by many tourists who are attracted to this area because of the beauty of the landscape and developing activist tourism.
